    Not to be a downer, but really, that is the only way that your sergeant can check if you've been cleaning your gun barrel or just slacking off. :):):):):)

    The bolt has to be open to let light in the breach end otherwise you can’t see down the barrel. In this case it looks to me like the bolt is back, and is being blocked by the soldier’s thumb. Both hands are forward of the trigger, since this is being done on parade this should be a well practiced drill.

    This is so true , when I was in the Navy reserve before I was old enough to sign up . on parade day's my Chief Petty Officer would do a line inspection and pick a random sailor and inspect the Long Arm . This was easier back then as we had bolt action rifles " 303's " so we would drop the bolt out and them you could look through the barrel . No way to slack off and not do the job , you clearly could see if the gun was clean and serviceable .
