I'm not confusing anything, but I think you - collectively - are confusing me with a Democrat. I'm a swing voter, in your terms. Normally I would be more inclined to vote Republican, if they didn't have a lunatic as a candidate.
I really do think America needs a third party, you know, somewhere IN THE MIDDLE?

    (not likely to happen)

My dictator , if you choose to call him that, has never worn black face unlike the neighboring dictator to the north.

We don't have a dictator, we just have a dork. Probably not for long.

    I know you’re intelligent pussycat.
You’re writing is well thought out and I agree with a lot you say and some I respectfully don’t agree with but that’s what makes us different.
When I said young people I didn’t mean all but there’s a lot that believe in the notion that the government is the sole provider and that’s just not true.
The Government does not produce anything of value.
Only takes thru taxation to pay for programs and other things
Keep up the good fight and get up daily and do it again and I’m on your side whether we agree or not

Do not understand the power of the word “free” ,even though its a lie. Most people don’t take the time to examine policies or even care. All they hear is “ let someone else pay your bills”. I agree that Trump would curb stomp any currently running dem on policy and statistics, but that may not be enough.

There is NO way Biden and his band of socialist democrats, INCLUDING the self proclaimed "Independent" Bernie Sanders, can unseat President Trump in November. Trump is accomplished more in his first 4 years than the last 2 presidents combined in their 16 years. His second term will be the continuation of "promises made, promises kept". The state of our economy isn't his fault, China is to blame for that with their release of their 3rd global pandemic in our lifetime. Because of the president, we are already seeing a "V" shaped recovery and it's only a matter of time before we see a full and stronger economy under his domestic economic plans. Yes, Trump will continue to be our 45th president for another 4 years.

I guess my views are more along the lines of Libertarian in terms of politics. There is just no way I'm voting for Biden or any of those loons supporting the riots and calling them "peaceful" protests.

All results have the tendency to be bad. No one can tell what will happen. I don't get the feeling there is a universal consent on the path forward. Something unexpected will happen that's for sure.

Keep in mind the campaign hasn't really started.
Any polls we're looking at are to early in the process.
And never forget the October surprise.
But as to the question, Yes he can win.

I am afraid neither of our choices are worth much this election.

The Presidency is basically a glorified sports game at this point. Ego plays a massive part because each side will argue as neither side want to be wrong. This is the number one problem with politics at the moment.

You are either on team A or B. You might like a player on the other team and not like a player on your own however admitting this is never easy because people feel it points to weakness within their side and strength in the opposition. So the middle ground shrinks and most people actively go against their own interests because the end game is always to "win" for a temporary ego boost - not because it's the correct thing to do.

I have always been fascinated by US Politics as an outsider living in Australia. It is good as you can't get involved and take an outsiders view on the proceedings. Though in saying, whenever people talk about Trump over here in OZ, they get emotional about it, and have their views on him.

I say that once you get emotional, you've lost the game. As an outsider watching what other people say about him, it is almost like an animalistic emotion grabs people in the gut and throat. I said before the election of Trump and Clinton, that Trump will win. No matter how many of the polls have Biden in the lead, I think Trump will win. If Trump does win again, I think he will not make it full term. I think he will be taken out much like JFK was.

There is a lot of water to go under the bridge between now and Tuesday, 3 November 2020. Here in OZ they say "A day is a long one in Politics". The Democrats could pull the rug out of Biden because of his diminishing cognitive abilities, to cause a stir, to spite Trump...who knows? We'll have to watch this space...

Yes because he has the advantage of the mailing system and incumbency. He is also a better speaker than Biden and he feeds on criticism whereas Biden wastes time defending against it. Presidents also tend to have higher approval ratings during times of crisis.

I'd say the peace agreements he brokered between middle eastern countries, normalizing relations between them, gives him an edge.

I think Donald Trump's management of the COVID-19 pandemic has been atrocious, and on that basis alone, he deserves to lose. Before the coronavirus showed up, I reckon Trump was almost a shoo-in. The economy was growing steadily, unemployment was at record lows and the Democrats didn't have any candidates with a "wow factor". Sure, he got impeached in January, but because it was almost completely on partisan lines, with Democrats voting for it and all but a couple of Republicans voting against it, the impeachment looked like a Democrat attempt to sabotage Trump. Now however, nearly 200,000 Americans are dead and unemployment has skyrocketed. The economy, like many others around the world, has gone into a major recession. Some pain was inevitable for America with this pandemic, but a great deal could also have been avoided if Trump had taken the virus more seriously from the get-go.

However, he might still win. Joe Biden is ahead in the polls, but not as far ahead as Hillary Clinton was last time, and look what happened then. Moreover, the gap between them is closing. "Sleepy Joe", as Trump likes to call him (my own nickname for him is "Creepy Joe") appears increasingly frail. It seems doubtful that he will survive an entire term in office. You even have to wonder if he will live to see the election! Many people who support Biden are doing so not because they feel inspired by him, but because they can't stand Trump. Likewise, there were people last time who voted for Trump because they couldn't stand Hillary. Other than not being Trump, Biden doesn't have an awful lot else to recommend him.

Where Trump could pick up some significant votes is on the issue of law and order - a strategy that worked superbly well for Richard Nixon in 1968, when there was similar serious civil unrest in the wake of Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. Much of the worst civil unrest this year has been in cities and states with Democrats in charge. And those Democrat leaders have been extraordinarily permissive towards the rioters, even talking about defunding their police departments or in the case of Minneapolis, disbanding them altogether! As Americans watch their cities burn, that kind of rhetoric won't be sitting too well with many of them. Trump standing strong on law and order might make a few of them decide to forgive him over his terrible handling of the pandemic. His position on climate change won't necessarily hurt him, because many of the people who vote for him are sceptics and deniers as well. So really, he's just appealing to his base with that.

Frankly, I'm not sure that either of them will win outright in November. I think there's every possibility the election will have an inconclusive outcome, leading to protracted legal battles. And if that does indeed occur, expect civil unrest on a grand scale. There could also be serious unrest if Trump wins, or if Biden appears to have won but Trump doesn't concede (he already appears to be setting the stage for that with his concerns over postal voting). So whoever wins, or doesn't win, I suspect America itself might lose.
