And Ann Francis only got better with age !!
I always wondered how many cylinders were in a radial engine. So a Harley engine is 2/9ths of a typical radial engine?
I think they can have any practical number. More cylinders apply the power more smoothly, and using an odd number of cylinders reduces vibration.
WOW! I never realized that the cam sprocket rotates opposite of the crank.
It's brilliant - looks like one of those clever Victorian machines.
And you can apply the same principle, but in reverse ...
... like the Brits do when they're running low on cash.
Sorry I missed that one for your Thanksgiving, neighbours - the next one would'a cooked'im good, eh.
Dear streakers - you just gotta plan, man ...
Bristol Hercules, circa 1945
14 cylinder sleeve valve, approx 1800 HP
As fitted to the Short Sterling, the Bristol Beaufighter (Whispering Death to the Japs) and the Halifax Bomber.
My grandfather's two older brothers went out on Halifax's. They never came back.
My 'ex's' Uncle was also a Pilot in 460 Sqn, on Halifax's operating out of Driffield and Leconfield in Yorkshire. He and all of his crew (Crew 145) did the required 36 missions and did come back. But it took it's toll on him in later years, as he was a pacifist and never enjoyed doing that job. I have seen a list of all of their sorties and the dates.
