Charles Manson, the cult leader of the Manson family who masterminded the Tate-LaBianca killings of 1969, was one of the most reviled and fascinating figures in American pop culture. He was in his eighties.

Manson died of natural causes at Kern County hospital, according to a California Department of Corrections statement.

    Good.

How much did it cost to keep this bastard in jail for how many years?

Much more than the bullet, chemicals, rope or electricity it would have taken to execute him that is for sure.

It was a failure of the justice system to let him live.

They should bring his carcass down-under. We've got quite a few hungry Croc's that could be fed with it, and that would be about the best thing that his rotten arse ever did. Or you could just dump it in the waters off Guadalupe....one or two Great Whites there that need feeding.

It most certainly would have saved quite a few taxpayers $$$ if he had been Fred!!!

Let me see now, the cost of x10 7.62mm rounds Vs keeping him breathing and locked up since the late 1960's......

Rope is cheaper, and you can re-use it.

I don't understand why capital punishment is not imposed on people like him right away. The same thing is happening around the world. It's like feeding mindless sick people with the tax payers money.

Manson was sentenced to death. His sentence was commuted to life when the California death penalty statute was declared invalid by the California Supreme Court. A few months later the voters reinstated the death penalty.

So........why didn't they put him back on the list - and at the top?

When the court struck down the California law enabling the death penalty it was no longer in effect.
All pending death sentences were automatically commuted to life.
A referendum to institute a death penalty was then passed by the voters.
It was effectively a new law and could not be applied retroactively.

Damn!! I'll bet that there were a few pieces of trash that they would have liked to apply it to though??

I blame the Liberal Democrats. They feel that the individual is not responsible for their crimes, but society is responsible, so they will do anything to stop the punishment of an individual for what they did. Case in point, Rose Bird was a State Supreme Court judge that routinely overturned death sentence cases just because she could. In one case, she over turned a death sentence of a man that chopped up a XX year old girl with an axe. He went free with no punishment. In an interview she said "If they didn't like what she was doing, they should change the law so she couldn't do it." She was the first State Supreme Court justice to be voted out of office by the people. There was nothing wrong with the law, just the people who were suppose to administer it. The Democrats have been changing the State Laws so the people can never vote them out of office again.

Damn. What a crock of S****!!! If someone has done a crime, and IS proven way beyond any shadow of a doubt - in a Court of Law, then they have to take responsibility for their actions. They did it. Not anyone else. They do the time and cop the punishment. Just because some little old Lady Judge don't like the punishment, does not mean that the Perp didn't do the crime. Your methods of voting in Judges ain't worth spitting on if it was a bush fire if this is the sort of Judge you get.

State Supreme Court Justices are appointed, not voted in. But there was a way for the people to give a vote of no confidence to repeal the appointment. It never happened in California before until her. Then she and 2 cronies on the court that voted the way she told them to vote were ousted. She pissed off so many voters that they voted to get rid of her, not to elect her. Of course since she was a Democrat and her two cronies were Democrats as soon as the Democrats could get enough members on there side, they stopped the people from ever doing this again.
