    Allison, a Dirigible is a larger version of the Goodyear blimp. Look up the Hindenburg for reference. They were used to carry large numbers of people across the big water until trans Atlantic airlines really caught on.

    I just know someone is going to come along and say....why didn't you just google it. Phtttt to that. I would rather ask and discuss it. If everyone googled everything we would never have anything to talk about. Oh well let them google, I will still ask a question the old fashion way. :)

    Allison, another word for a dirigible is 'zeppelin', a type of rigid airship named after the German Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin. He pioneered airship development at the beginning of the 20th century.​
