    He was media friendly, and he had a liking for libel.

    Levants problem is he's become the boy who cried wolf. He doesn't have any credibility left. Even his own party wishes he would just shut up and go away.
    He once made a major part of his platform that Quebec should leave Canada, as that would remove the corruption from Canadian politics. I'm no lover of Quebec, but we could achieve the same result by just kicking out Alberta. (or Ontario, for that matter).
    The problem with politics is that no decent human being with any degree of integrity would even consider it, which leaves us with a choice of which set of crooks do we want ruling over us.

    Probably, and that's part of the problem. Media corps can say whatever they want, people believe them, and that can have lasting changes on our political system. Not to mention the fact that our media has been used as a propaganda machine.

    If news agencies were required to prove their reports, with actual data that the public can view, then it would be easy to see when they're lying, or giving an opinion.

    Couldn't agree more. And what pisses me off is that it's plain common sense ! Are we all that stupid ?

    Hey neighbour, up here we've go it too. Par example ... Canada has a national broadcasting company (because what self-respecting socialist country doesn't?).

    It's called the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Its programming (including the news) is wildly and tediously liberal, and it's essentially a promotional arm of the Liberal Party.

    But all of us taxpayers pay for it - like, wtf am I missing here ?

    I think its become a global problem now, & years ago, here in the UK, our BBC was a trusted news broadcaster all around the World. Now, there are many that believe it has just become the mouth piece for Central Government. Our newspapers are all but dead in the water now, thanks to the advent of Social Media, & Fake News or Contrived News is all we seem to get.

    In fairness, a little history (and this is an opinion).

    The CBC ( TV version) was created by the government in the days when there wasn't a Canadian station at all. In most parts of the country, it was the only TV station you could get on your rabbit ears ( if you lived close to the border you might get an American station ). As such, the CBC was a national asset. As my Dad said, life was easy, Saturday night you got Don Messers whatever followed by the Leafs game. That was your choice. If you lived in Toronto you could pick up Buffalo.
    OK, the world changed. Now, if you are like Gadget, you think the CBC is a political weapon because the CBC doesn't seem to like the right wing parties who want to eradicate it. Truth is the CBC doesn't like anybody. They're not supposed to.
    Are they liberal leaning? No. They only appear that way to those whose point of view is off center. To the NDP, they are right wing.
    The CBC is a Canadian variant of the BBC. And I watch the BBC all the time, and I still think it's the best source for a world perspective available. I will admit that neither of them are as good as they used to be.
