Mnemonics are easy to use when there is something that is hard to remember.

    left ↔ right

for some this is a hard one

    solution:
put your hands on a table like this
    hands.jpg
now look at your thumbs and forefingers (index)
look at which hand you can make an L
    handsb.jpg
that L refers to left, so that hand is situated at your left

There is also this famous german mnemonic to remember the order of the planets in our solar system. (Starting from the one closest to the sun)

    Mercury - Mein
    Venus - Vater
    Earth - erklärt
    Mars - mir
    Jupiter - jeden
    Saturn - Sonntag
    Uranus - unseren
    Neptune - Nachthimmel

The mnemonic "Mein vater erklärt mir jeden Sonntag unseren Nachthimmel" is translated in english to "My father explains our Nightsky to me every Sunday."

Another hard one for some is when looking at night to the moon.

    first quarter ↔ last quarter

Okay, let us now learn 2 French words
    premier = first
    dernier = last
Now we take the previous pictures and draw a line for making a p or a d
    And:

In primary school, I remember learning 'Man Very Early Made Jars Stand Up Nearly Perpendicularly. (Pluto was a planet then.)

Yeah, it was different in Germany back then, too.

I spare you the original german here, but Neptune and Pluto were "Nine Planets" .... the rest was the same.

    How to open/close a jar / a bottle?

For the Dutch / Flemish it's easy, they use DROL (turd).
I've been thinking, and came up with lord, but that gave troubles for the d, so I came to

In high school biology, a classmate developed an alternate mnemonic for the classification system, which was horrible enough to be stuck in my mind forever:

    Knife - Kingdom
    Penetrates - Phylum
    Cranium - Class
    Of - Order
    Female - Family
    Girl - Genus
    Scout - Species

I try to save my "stroking" for the evening when the wife is asleep on the couch.

    Baltic states
    Estonia + Latvia + Lithuania

There are 3 of them, one above the other, but which one is at the top, which one in the middle and which one at the bottom?
That's easy: just put them alphabetically:
    Estonia
    Latvia
    Lithuania

There is this german mnemonic to remember the cardinal directions.

Starting from the top, then going clock-wise:

"Nie Ohne Seife Waschen" (translation: "Never Wash Without Soap"

"Norden Osten Süden Westen" (translation: "North East South West"
