I always wondered how many cylinders were in a radial engine. So a Harley engine is 2/9ths of a typical radial engine?

I think they can have any practical number. More cylinders apply the power more smoothly, and using an odd number of cylinders reduces vibration.

WOW! I never realized that the cam sprocket rotates opposite of the crank.

And you can apply the same principle, but in reverse ...

My grandfather's two older brothers went out on Halifax's. They never came back.

My 'ex's' Uncle was also a Pilot in 460 Sqn, on Halifax's operating out of Driffield and Leconfield in Yorkshire. He and all of his crew (Crew 145) did the required 36 missions and did come back. But it took it's toll on him in later years, as he was a pacifist and never enjoyed doing that job. I have seen a list of all of their sorties and the dates.

    Cheers Pussycat.
