No child deserves to be that ill. This is a heart warming story. I'm so glad that she was able to make a recovery and be lovingly welcomed back. Quite a difference to the internet bullying story that we've just had about a young girl that ended up taking her own life.

Prison inmates gave their food to hungry kids ...

    NSWCC.jpg
This Christmas, an inmate at the New South Wales North Coast Correctional Centre decided that it would be a good time to give back to the charity which was feeding his child in his absence.
So together with the prison Chaplain, he enlisted fellow prisoners to donate money from their wages to buy food for hungry kids in their area of South Kempsey. Prisoners without a job donated food from their own breakfasts instead.
All 650 prisoners contributed in one way or another, according to one inmate. And together, they stockpiled seven weeks worth of food for the 'No Kid Hungry' project.

Newfoundland calendar of burly mermaid men raises $300,000 for mental health

A calendar of bearded, mermaid-tailed Newfoundlanders has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for mental health.

Last year, around 30 burly guys donned sparkly mermaid tails to pose as “merb’ys”—a portmanteau of “mermaid” and “b’y,” a Newfoundland term meaning “boy” or “buddy.”

The whimsically dressed models posed by the sea, at a barber shop and in a pumpkin patch for the 2018 calendar.

North And South Korea Will March Together Under One Flag At The 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyongyang.

North and South Korea are set to march together at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony under a unified flag - a blue silhouette of the peninsula placed upon a white background.

( And, the nations have also agreed to form a joint North and South Korean women's ice hockey team, to play against the top teams like Russia, Canada, and the USA. )

South Korean President Moon Jae-in earlier called the joint team 'a historic event' that will move people from around the world.

It's a GREAT idea! I truly hope that it will happen! But as usual, I'm afraid politics will get in the way. Sorry to be such a naysayer.

In the spirit of a good friend and neighbour not just always telling you what you want to hear - if the meddling USA would get out of the way, things would be a lot better.

Here is some background on the unified flag :

Discussions for a joint North-South Korean sports team had been taking place since the 1960s. Officials from the two sides met in the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong on May 17, 1963 to discuss competing in the Olympics as one nation for the first time since the division of the peninsula. Inter-Korea talks continued throughout the 1980s, mostly focusing on the realm of sports, but no significant progress was made.

However, ahead of the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, representatives from the two Koreas came up with what is now referred to as the Korean unification flag, which features a blue illustration of the Korean peninsula over a white background. Even though the efforts to create a united Korean team for those games were not realized, the first-ever joint cheering team appeared during those games.

The Korean unification flag was used for the first time by a unified Korean team at the World Table Tennis Championship in 1991 in Chiba, Japan.

Athletes from the two countries have also marched together under the flag at the Summer and Winter Olympics in Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2003, and Turin in 2006. Kim Jong-il has stated that he didn’t think displaying two separate flags was necessary, because the ultimate goal for both sides was reunification.

    The story behind it:

Peter, the founder of the social movement enters the 7:51am express train to Perth and starts off by contributing a beautifully uplifting message. The intent behind this was to allow people to feel recognised for the work they do and to demonstrate how simple it can be to uplift each other when we come together through positive shared experience. It can be easy to feel unappreciated, disconnected and isolated from our community in a world that constantly desires exponential growth, busy-ness and expansion. Thankfully, we’ve discovered our shared humanity exists just cm’s beneath the surface of a seemingly ghost like public places. We decided to create this moment as a humanitarian check-point; a brief moment in time to see that beyond our differences there is love and humanity.

What happens next is quite incredible to say the least. Pete hands out the lyrics to the song whilst a young Ukulele player brings out a vintage uke and starts to hum out an angelic version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Within seconds other members of the public decide to join in on this outpouring of community joy.

“We had a few of the Liberators help get the ball rolling, however more than 60% of the passengers who sung along were complete strangers. We sung the entire song, progressively gaining confidence and participants as we went. When we finished an uproar of positive emotion, claps, cheers and smiles came streaming from the people.” Said Michelle, one of the Liberators who helped in the morning.

The Liberators are no strangers to these public participatory experiences having created multiple examples of freedom & human connection in Perth including the Perth Train Party which gained more than 40 million views online. The Liberators create these moments for the world to no longer be fearful of respectful self-expression in public. We expose an element of our own vulnerability as a way to give strength to those who are unable to do so yet. This is where the idea of Liberation comes in to the picture.

The next step for this Perth based international social movement is taking their concepts of love and human connection through 5 capital cities in Europe to see if these acts of spontaneous joy are universally well received or if it’s just in Perth. Assist the Liberators in sharing the love to a global audience by supporting their crowdfunding campaign.

Chad Caddell is the principal of Union Pointe Academy in Florence, Kentucky. And whenever he has to announce school closures, he does it with flair - he releases a personalized tune every time there is a snow day.

So far this January, he has performed parodies of tunes by Mariah Carey, Garth Brooks, and Taylor Swift.

( Before becoming principal, Chad was a music major in college, and (appropriately) a drama teacher. )

UK quartet celebrate with a cup of tea after breaking Atlantic rowing record ...

A cup of tea and enough food to feed an army was the celebration of choice for four Brits who set a new world record to become the first team to row across the Atlantic in under 30 days.

Friends Dicky Taylor, George Biggar, Peter Robinson and Stuart Watts – also known as The Four Oarsmen – crossed the finish line of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge just after 2am on the morning of Saturday, January 13.

Sleepwalker Survives Fall from Eighth-floor Apartment ...

    Pic 1.jpg

Randy Phothisane, age 35, works the day shift at an industrial site in Rochester, NY. And he has a history of sleepwalking.

Phothisane’s girlfriend told police that he took her sleeping pills before hitting the sack last Saturday night. And at around 5am last Sunday, he sleep-climbed out of her eighth-floor apartment window on South Street near Clinton Street, wearing nothing but boxer shorts, and fell onto some scaffolding six stories below.

And he even managed to get up and stagger around after his fall, and was later helped to safety through a window by firefighters. He was then taken to Bellevue Hospital with a broken leg and rib and injuries to his back and torso, police said.

    Pic 2.jpg

His family was pragmatically sympathetic ...

“He’s okay. We’re just waiting for more information,” Phothisane’s brother told The Post on Monday.

“Thank God he is alive,” added his mother, Pamela Phothisane. “Next time maybe he won’t be so lucky.”

Damn good job, too ! It would take some skill to do that, I would think. :D

But The Navy were not amused ...

" The air crew who used their US Navy warplane to draw a penis in the sky above the town of Okanogan, Washington, last week have been grounded. " the US Navy said on Friday.

But something tells me that this one will turn out to be a good news story in the end.

    Hooray for hungry husbands !

The day after Donald Trump’s inauguration on 20 January 2017, millions of women marched in protest in Washington D.C. and cities around the world.

And as photographs of the event made their way around the internet, an image was found showing a plane flying a banner asking “ Where’s My Damn Dinner ? ” over the crowd ...

But then, this image took another lap around in January of 2018, after a second Women’s March took place in cities across the country. Hmmm.

And many 'overtly misogynist' web sites shared this image, including Return of the Kings, which chided protesters for lacking proper cooking skills, and Chateau Heartiste, which called the pilot the “Alpha Male of the Month.” !

Factual or not, you just gotta love it - and you can read all about it here :
